‘I just want to see what is around the next corner.’ - expedition leader Jeff Wilner’s words for expeditioning through life.
And the team can now check expeditioning across Canada off the list - 9500km from St John’s, Newfoundland (the easternmost point in North America) to Fairbanks, Alaska, USA - to be more precise.
Driving anything from eight to fifteen hours a day, spirits were high for the duration of the twelve day journey and saw ‘The Mothership’ & ‘Princess’ cross the spectacular islands of Newfoundland and Labrador, and travel the length of the Alaska highway. But it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows! Enduring some seriously tough driving conditions, including temperatures ranging from 0’C down to -20’C plus minimal visibility on some days, those days with blue skies, crisp air and miles of forest and mountain scenery more than made up for them.
The Defenders successfully made it across the continent on time, despite experiencing engine faults and gremlins in the electrics, and requiring an oil change due to water getting inside during the English Channel crossing last September - and are now getting in shape for some seriously exciting amphibious summer adventures. Stay tuned!
